AUSTIN, Texas – June 9, 2009 – National Instruments (Nasdaq: NATI) today announced the release of a new embedded vision system that gives manufacturing engineers and system integrators the ability to build high-speed real-time visual inspection systems for sorting products, verifying assembly and inspecting packaging. The NI EVS-1464RT Embedded Vision System (EVS) is a high-performance, multicore controller capable of processing images from multiple IEEE 1394 and GigE Vision cameras. Additionally, the NI EVS-1464RT features unextended temperature range, a real-time operating system, solid state hard drive and a fanless design making it ideal for use in harsh industrial environments.

The NI EVS-1464RT can be configured with NI Vision Builder for Automated Inspection (AI), an interactive software environment for building, benchmarking and deploying machine vision applications without programming. With this intuitive, menu-driven software, engineers can build complex machine vision applications incorporating not only vision algorithms but also advanced decision-making with looping and branching using the built-in state diagram editor. For more advanced applications, the NI EVS-1464RT also can integrate with NI LabVIEW graphical design software and Vision Development Module, the full NI library of image processing functions. 07.11.2008 Qualimatest erweitert sein Beleuchtungssortiment mit den Produkten von Smart Vision Lights Messe Stuttgart, 4.-6. November 2008 , Sony stand: Hall 6, Stand 6C33
At this year’s VISION show in Stuttgart, Sony Europe’s Image Sensing Solutions (ISS) division will be highlighting a number of new digital machine vision cameras, including an IEEE1394.b module - a high-end Camera-Link model - and four second generation Smart Cameras, which adds to the successful XCI range. Each of the new Smart Cameras have a 3x performance improvement over the original XCI range.
Commenting on the forthcoming launches Arnaud Destruels of Sony’s ISS division stated: “The market is maturing quickly and the technology’s evolution has enabled phenominal performance and flexibility. It’s great to be delivering these new Smart Cameras following the prototype preview at VISION ‘07.
“The number of possible applications is also on the increase. In May, Sony introduced the first smart OEM camera unit with number plate recognition. We’re also seeing the XCI Smart Camera being used for everything from quality control in the food industry to automatic traffic control.”
To highlight the capabilities of the new units, Sony will run a series of interactive workshops at VISION 2008. These will include a demonstration of its face recognition and intelligent security management capabilities. A multi-camera configuration of the IEEE1394.b module will also be on display.
Sony will be on hand to discuss its complete range of cameras and the Sony Vision Network throughout the VISION 2008 show.

02.09.2008 National Instruments erweitert das Lieferprogramm der intelligenten Kameras Anlage zur automatischen Bedienung, Erfassung mit Kontrolle der mechanischen Funktionen von Uhren.
Der WatchTester ist ein universelles System mit Bilderfassung, das je nach Anforderung mit zusätzlichen Modulen für die Betätigung/Antrieb und Messung ausgerüstet werden kann. Die Synchronisierung der verschiedenen Abläufe erfolgt durch einen PC, der durch sein Benutzerinterface eine einfache und flexible Bedienung erlaubt. Das System eignet sich für Labor und Produktion. Je nach gewünschter Empfindlichkeit wird es für seine Aufgabe konfiguriert.
Das System wurde in der Schweiz durch ein erfahrenes Team für die spezifischen Anforderungen in der Uhrenindustrie entwickelt. Sein Systemaufbau ist flexibel und bietet auch eine optimale Basis zur Lösung von kundenspezifischen Anforderungen.

Die Image Sensing Solutions Division von Sony Europe hat ihr Angebot an Camera Link® - Kameramodulen auf Basis des anerkannten Schnittstellen-Industriestandards durch eine 5 Megapixel Monochrom-Kamera mit 15 Frames/s erweitert. Die XCL-5000 wurde für präzise Inspektions‑ und Machine-Vision-Anwendungen entwickelt und ist mit einem monochromen Super HAD CCD-Sensor im 2/3-Zoll-Format und Progressive-Scan-Technik ausgestattet. Durch 12-Bit-Processing wird eine schnelle und effiziente Datenausgabe ermöglicht.
Durch die von der XCL-5000 gebotene Kombination aus Geschwindigkeit und Auflösung eignet sich die Kamera zum Beispiel besonders für den Einsatz im Bereich der automatischen Halbleiterbestückung. Auch Entwickler allgemeiner Machine-Vision-Systeme und automatischer Inspektionssysteme, denen es auf die detailgetreue Erfassung von Bildern zur Steigerung der Produktivität ankommt, dürften an der neuen Kamera interessirt sein. Weitere Anwendungsgebiete sind Anlagen für die medizinische Mikroskopie, Sicherheits-Applikationen sowie die Nahrungsmittel‑ und Getränkeindustrie.
Die Integration der Camera Link-Schnittstelle ermöglicht Systemintegratoren die Beibehaltung der traditionellen Frame-Grabber-Architektur zur Vorverarbeitung der Bilder. In vielen Fällen kann die XCL-5000 sogar zur Steigerung der System-Auflösung in eine existierende Hardware-Umgebung integriert werden. Das Modul ist kompatibel zu Frame-Grabbern führender Anbieter, darunter jene von National Instruments und Euresys, was die Systemintegration noch weiter vereinfacht.
Das Interline Transfer (IT) CCD der XCL-5000 liefert eine prinzipbedingt hohe Bildqualität. Dies bezieht sich nicht nur auf die Auflösung, sondern auch auf die Empfindlichkeit (f=5,6 bei 400 lx) und die Mindestlichtstärke (1 lx). Das Modul bietet ebenfalls eine Binning-Funktion und ein 3 x 3 Echtzeit-Bildaufbereitungs-Filter. Mit der Partial-Scan-Technologie lässt sich eine Anhebung der effektiven Framerate erzielen, indem nur ausgewählte Bereiche des Zielbildes ausgelesen werden. Das Resultat ist eine erhöhte Leistungsfähigkeit in High-Speed-Anwendungen.
Im Unterschied zu konkurrierenden Produkten mit Camera Link - Schnittstelle ist die XCL‑5000 mit Abmessungen von nur 44 x 44 x 57,5 mm sehr kompakt und wiegt nur 135 g. Sie ist für den industriellen Einsatz konzipiert und verkraftet Stöße bis 70 G und Vibrationen bis 10 G. Der Betriebstemperaturbereich beträgt ‑5 bis +45 °C. Die Kamera benötigt nur eine einfache Versorgungsspannung von 12 V und nimmt maximal 3,6 W auf.

Die Image Sensing Solutions Division von Sony Europe hat ihr Angebot an Smart Cameras durch das Modell XCI-V3 erweitert, das Monochrombilder mit VGA-Auflösung (640 x 480) und einer Framerate von 60 fps liefert. Die neue Kamera enthält neben dem eigentlichen Bildsensor auch einen Frame Grabber und einen unter Linux oder Windows XPe laufenden, x86-kompatiblen Prozessor. Dies erlaubt die kosteneffektive Implementierung einer Vielzahl von Inspektions‑, Machine-Vision‑ und Robotersteuerungs-Applikationen. Smart Cameras sind ein rasch expandierendes Segment des Machine-Vision-Markts. Sie laufen unter den vertrauten Betriebssystemen Windows XPe oder Linux und stellen eine flexible Hardwareplattform für OEMs, Systemintegratoren und Endanwender dar. Anders als bei konventionellen Machine-Vision-Kameras werden die erfassten Bilder innerhalb der XCI‑V3 verarbeitet, und erst die aufbereiteten Daten werden per Netzwerk an einen PC übermittelt. Damit ist der Weg frei für die schnelle, kosteneffektive Entwicklung und Implementierung einer ganzen Palette von Machine-Vision-Applikationen auf der Grundlage einer einheitlichen Hardware-Infrastruktur.
Die XCI-V3 besitzt einen Ausgang für den direkten Anschluss eines PC-Monitors, eine USB-Schnittstelle und eine integrierte 10Base-T/100Base-TX-Schnittstelle für die einfache Vernetzung. Die Kamera ist mit einem 1/3-Zoll Progressive-Scan-CCD-Bildsensor ausgestattet. Mit ihren Binning‑ und Partial-Scan-Funktionen ist es möglich, den Umfang der zu übermittelnden Daten zu reduzieren oder noch höhere effektive Frameraten bis 300 fps zu erzielen.
Unter anderem können Anwender das eingebaute, echtzeitfähige 3x3 Image-Pre-Processing-Filter der Kamera nutzen, um die Kanten eines Objekts hervorzuheben oder den Kontrast zur Wiedergabe kleiner Details zu verstellen. Damit auch Bilder von schnell bewegten Objekten aufgezeichnet werden können, ist die Kamera außerdem mit einem externen Triggereingang und einer Triggerverzögerungs-Funktion ausgestattet. Zusätzlich steht eine Strobe-Einstellungs-Funktion zur Verfügung, mit der sich das Timing eines externen Stroboskoplichts präzise justieren lässt.
Software-Support und einfache Programmierung gehören zu den wichtigsten Vorteilen des Smart Camera-Konzepts. Im Angebot von Sony findet sich alles, was Entwickler brauchen um Applikationen schnell und einfach zu implementieren. Für die Grundeinstellung der Kameraparameter sowie zum Erfassen und Abspeichern von Bildern kann auf Beispiel-Applikationen zurückgegriffen werden, während für komplexere Anwendungen sowohl unter Linux als auch unter Windows XPe ein komplettes Softwareentwicklungs-Kit verfügbar ist. Dieses besteht aus Editor, Debugger und Compiler und wird durch umfassende Programmier‑ und Referenzanleitungen vervollständigt.
Außerordentlich umfangreich ist auch die Unterstützung durch Drittanbieter im Rahmen des Sony Vision Networks. Angeboten werden die Halcon 7.1 Library und Entwicklungswerkzeuge von MVTech, das Imaging Environment von FDS Research, VBAI von National Instruments und Scorpion von Tordivel, was eine zügige Entwicklung auf einer hohen Abstraktionsebene ermöglicht. Mit diesen Tools und Treibern erschließen sich der XCI-V3 zahlreiche Märkte, deren Palette vom Automotive-Sektor über die Elektronik und Halbleiterproduktion bis zu Sicherheits‑, Verkehrsregelungs‑ und Medizintechnik-Anwendungen, die Nahrungsmittel‑ und Getränkeindustrie und wissenschaftlichen Anwendungen reicht.
Die XCI-V3 ist ein echtes Komplettsystem in einem nur 55 x 55 x 110 mm (BxHxT) messenden, staubdichten und robusten Gehäuse. Die Kamera wiegt lediglich 400 g und erfüllt die einschlägigen Industriestandards bezüglich Stoß‑ und Vibrationsfestigkeit. The Sony Smart Camera, coupled with NI Vision Builder AI software, gives system integrators and end users the ability to create high-performance systems that address specific needs across a broad spectrum of industries and applications.

NI Vision Builder AI is a configurable machine vision software package that requires no programming and includes optimized drivers and utilities that acquire, analyze and display images. Engineers can configure more than 100 powerful machine vision tools including pattern matching, optical character recognition (OCR) and particle analysis and can communicate triggering and inspection results directly to industrial devices over the Sony camera’s connectors through digital I/O and Ethernet protocols.
The new Sony camera comes bundled with a demonstration CD that includes a copy of NI Vision Builder AI software, which users can then license with the proper NI activation code.
The Sony XCI-SX1 model’s imaging is built around Sony’s 1/2-inch SXGA Progressive Scan B&W CCD, and operates at 15 fps at SXGA resolution and 34 fps at VGA. Similar to a PC, the camera is equipped with a high-performance X86 processor running a built-in Windows XPe operating system. A high-speed 1 GB CompactFlash card serves as storage for the operating system with ample space for the Vision Builder AI application software. A fast 256 MB DDR SDRAM module provides ample volatile memory for high-performance throughout.
The new Sony XCI-V3 model, a 1/3-inch VGA PS black and white camera that operates at 60 frames per second, is planned to join the XCI-SX1 model this fall. The new camera also will be available, with a copy of NI Vision Builder AI software, which can be licensed from NI.

A longtime leader in end-user vision systems, NI now adds support for GigE Vision cameras to its existing image acquisition software. With NI Vision Acquisition software, engineers can acquire images from thousands of different cameras and seamlessly move between standard vision buses including IEEE 1394a, IEEE 1394b, Camera Link and analog. NI Vision Development Module NI Vision Builder for Automated Inspection . The XCI-SX1 ships with a complete Linux operating system, drivers and documentation pre-loaded on its internal 128Mbyte Compact Flash storage. The SDK provides all of the facilities necessary to customise this software environment, build applications, and test them on the target hardware itself. “The availability of software development tools is an essential part of helping our customers to fully exploit the capabilities of smart camera products like the XCI-SX1,” said Arnaud Destruels, Product Marketing Manager at Sony. “We are committed to providing our customers with the best machine vision hardware: these SDKs give us software support to match.”
The addition of further Compact Flash storage capacity will allow Windows Xpe and Linux users to develop their own applications direct on the camera. The camera hardware includes a direct PC monitor output, USB connector, 10Base-T/100Base-TX interface, external trigger facilities and electronic shutter, allowing the device to be configured for any end-user application, but also for native development and testing.
Key to Sony’s commitment to support users of the XCI-SX1 smart camera range is the announcement of the first three smart camera software compatible developer partners for the newly introduced Sony Vision Network: MVTec with Halcon Library, Euresys with e-Vision and FDS with Imaging Software.
The Sony Vision Network is a partnership programme intended to deliver proven combinations of Sony hardware and third-party software backed with expert consultancy, advice and supply chain support. The Network will help achieve fast and simple application- and system-building by identifying assured sources of hardware and software compatible with Sony’s products, and providing expertise, experience and advice on integration and sector-specific issues.
Smart cameras such as the XCI-SX1 are currently seeing the highest growth rates within the machine vision market. Unlike conventional machine vision cameras, images captured by the XCI-SX1 are processed within the camera, which also has its own CPU for control tasks. This confers several advantages in certain kinds of machine vision system: it relieves the processing burden on the central CPU; it cuts the amount of data that needs to be moved around the system; and the integrated nature of the camera/processor combination simplifies camera control tasks. It allows fast and cost-effective development and implementation of a range of machine vision applications, without changing the hardware infrastructure.

The new devices combine the proven technologies that made Sony a pioneer in the field of machine vision, with the popular CamerLink interface. Featuring progressive scanning, frame rates from 15 to 60 frames per second (fps) and resolutions of up to 2Mpixel, the Sony XCL range of cameras allow systems integrators and OEMs to choose a Sony CameraLink-compatible camera for any application. The new devices are particularly suitable for users who wish to use the CameraLink interface to retain a traditional frame-grabber architecture to pre-process images.
All of Sony’s XCL models include a partial scan mode which increases effective frame rate by reading out only selected portions of the target image, enhancing performance in high-speed applications. In monochrome models, a binning function groups adjacent pixels of the sensor together vertically, to increase frame rate even further. Mathieu Forget, Product Marketing Manager Europe, from Sony Image Sensing Solutions, said, “The introduction of this strong lineup of cameras marks Sony’s entrance into the CameraLink market. It builds on the company’s longstanding pioneering approach in digital interfacing and continuing commitment to IEEE 1394, with strong loyalty to the machine vision marketplace. The entry-level XCL-V500 and X700 are VGA and XGA versions respectively, giving systems designers access to a combination of features unrivalled in comparably-priced competing products. Unlike most CameraLink-compatible devices, they have an extremely small form factor of just 29 x 29 x 30mm and weight of only 55g, allowing them to be used in applications where space is at a premium. Both the V500 and X700 ultra compact models include a choice of internal and external sync, binning and partial scanning, and use a 1/3-type progressive scan (PS) interline transfer (IT) CCD.

Weybridge/Paris, 5 May, 2004 - Sony Europe’s Image Sensing Solutions division, one of the pioneers in IEEE 1394 technology, has announced successors to the company’s popular treated colour machine vision models. With immediate effect, the DFW-SX910 and DFW-X710 will replace the DFW-SX900 and DFW-X700 models. With their high resolution, range of features, and internal colour treatment, the DFW-X910 and the DFW-X710 cameras are ideal for quality-critical colour imaging applications, in any type of fluctuating lighting conditions.
The two new advanced digital cameras incorporate an IEEE 1394 digital interface, are easy to install and use, and produce highly detailed, uncompressed images. The DFW-SX910 and DFW-X710 cameras are aimed at vision systems with low processor power or in need of white balance or picture adjustment. They are well matched to a variety of applications in industry such as surface analysis, factory automation and food processing or in the medical / pharmaceutical fields as microscopy.
Both compact cameras employ a progressive scan CCD with square pixels and a new primary filter for exceptional colour reproduction. The DFW-SX910 is equipped with a 1/2-type 1,450,000-pixel CCD and offers SXGA resolution images up to 7.5 frames/s, while the DFW-X710 provides XGA resolution up to of 15 frames/s and is equipped with a 1/3-type 800,000-pixel CCD.
As a result of Sony’s proprietary DSP development, both models incorporate a variety of convenient features such as an external and software trigger function, partial scan (16 x 16 zones), and have selectable output modes (frame rate/bit depth), making these cameras extremely flexible. The new integrated frame memory in the cameras guaranties a better and flexible use of the 1394 network bandwidth. The exposure output allows synchronisation with a strobe for improved capturing of fast moving objects. The DFW-SX910 and DFW-X710 units boast automatic and manual gain, and both models feature plug-and-play IEEE 1394 interfaces compliant to version 1.3 of the standard, providing up to 400 Mbps data rates.
The DFW-SX910 and DFW-X710 cameras operate from an 8-30 Volts DC supply via the IEEE 1394 cable with a power consumption of 4 Watts. The cameras are housed in compact, rugged steel cases measuring 55 (W) x 55 (H) x 110 (D) mm (2 1/4 x 2 1/4 x 4 3/8 inches) and each weighs 250g.
The cameras will be available from May 2004.
